Frequently Asked Questions
When can I start?
You can join at any time. An instructor will schedule an introductory lesson along with a free trial class and then following the class, will talk to you about what programs we have.
Am I too old for Karate?
You are never too old. We have students that are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s involved in the program and it is great for health, stress relief, flexibility and many other benefits.
How old does my child need to be before starting?
We normally start our students at 4 years old, but we have had students begin at 3 1/2. We do an evaluation for all of our new students prior to their first class to make sure that they are able to participate in a group environment.
Can my child be in the same class as his friend?
Generally speaking, yes. We group classes by age and ability, and make every effort to keep friends together.
Can my children be in the same class?
We try to arrange it that way if possible. For example, if you have a child that is 6 and a child that is 8, we will see if your 6 year old is able to be in the Juniors class.
Can I still take lessons if I have an injury?
Yes. We have had many students in the past with injuries or medical conditions. You just need to be aware of what your limitations or what your child's limitations will be during class and let the instructor know of what you or your child's body will be capable of doing.
Can Karate help with my child's ADD?
Yes it can. We have had many students in the past with ADD, ADHD, or other attention deficit disorders in the past and have been very successful in helping them to slow down and focus on various tasks in their every day lives.
Can Karate help with controlling my child's weight?
Absolutely. We keep our students very active during their classes. Also, being in a very positive environment where your child will be praised for his/her accomplishments will give your child a healthy self image and build their self confidence. Finally, seeing the instructors as good role models will help as well.
My child has asthma. Can she still participate?
Yes. Our karate classes will help strengthen your child's lungs which will make them stronger. Be sure that if your child requires an inhaler that you bring it to every class.
How long does it take to become a Black Belt?
It takes approximately 4 to 6 years of regularly coming to class in order to become a Black Belt.
How much does it cost for lessons?
We have a couple of different program memberships depending on what benefits you are looking for out of a martial arts program. Most of our students invest about 15 to 16 dollars a class. What we would suggest is that you visit our location to get a feel for the facility you or your child will be training in, meet our instructors and see if Villari's is right for you.
Do you have family discounts?
Yes we do. We charge our normal tuition for the first two family members but then the rest of the family in the immediate household is free of any additional tuition.
Do I have to make long term financial commitments?
No. We have introductory packages that range from a week to a month which let you try it out first before enrolling.
